Income quintile
A ranked group within the income distribution
Short definition
One of five groups formed by ranking a population by income, each accounting for roughly one fifth of its weight. In the CES, thresholds use household disposable income and are calculated by country, survey round and module using survey weights. The first quintile contains the lowest incomes and the fifth the highest. The grouping describes income, which is distinct from wealth.
