Short definition
An alternative investment fund’s exposure divided by its net asset value. The gross and commitment methods have their own adjustments, so the method and scope must be identified. A fall in net value can raise the ratio without additional borrowing. Exceeding a fund’s leverage ceiling is distinct from missing a bank-loan payment.
