Short definition

The requirement that an emissions reduction or removal would not have occurred without the incentive created by carbon-credit revenue. Assessment compares the intervention with a credible trajectory without that funding. A project’s existence and compliance with a methodology do not by themselves establish the size of the additional benefit.
