Wash trading
Trading that creates apparent market activity
Short definition
Transactions structured to resemble genuine buying and selling while neutralising market risk or price competition. Classification depends on intent and control of the accounts, among other evidence. An accidental match between independently placed orders or a flat ending position does not by itself establish manipulation; the applicable rules depend on the market and jurisdiction.
