Main-home expenditure as a share of income
Short definition
Main-residence expenditure divided by income, expressed as a percentage. The net ratio deducts housing benefits from expenditure. The early-2024 French Housing Survey tables divide each group’s total expenditure by its total income; income is measured before direct taxes and excludes housing benefits. Payments by owners with an acquisition loan include principal repayments. Comparisons between tenure groups need to retain these conventions.
