Critical minerals

Essential resources with vulnerable supply chains

Energy & geopolitics

Short definition

Minerals designated by a public authority because of their economic or strategic importance and supply-chain vulnerability. The scope depends on the jurisdiction and list date. The November 2025 US list contains 60 minerals, including copper. Critical-mineral status defines a supply-security policy scope; product categories and industrial stages still require specification.
