Short definition
A Federal Reserve facility through which approved foreign and international monetary authorities temporarily obtain dollars against Treasuries held at the New York Fed. Repos last overnight or seven calendar days: dollars plus interest must be repaid to recover the securities. This funding of official reserves is distinct from private foreign-currency borrowing.
