Financial additionality
Financing enabled or improved by an intervention
Short definition
An intervention’s contribution where financing would otherwise be unavailable, insufficient or offered on terms that prevent a viable investment from proceeding. Assessment compares the financing obtained with a credible situation without the intervention. The volume of capital associated with support describes a financing structure; establishing the difference made requires evidence about available alternatives.
